Youth Council
The Sandusky/Erie County Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council has awarded $8,500 in grants for 13 community projects. The Youth Council is comprised of fourteen Erie County high school students from Sandusky, St. Mary Central Catholic, Perkins, Huron, Edison, Margaretta and Vermilion High Schools.

The Youth Council students visit non-profit organizations in Erie County each month during the school year to learn about community needs, in preparation for their grant making program in the spring. The Youth Council has awarded a total of $62,000 since its beginning ten years ago.

Funding for the 2010 Youth Council Grants program was provided by the Sandusky/Erie County Community Foundation and the Sandusky Rotary Club.

$1,000 For elementary school performances

Kinship
$700 Support a parent education program

$800 To install a playground at Crossroads Homeless Shelter

Sandusky Citizens Coalition
$600 For a male youth mentoring program

Sandusky State Theatre
$1,000 For a holiday program for foster families

Sandusky Library
$900 For computers for the Children’s Area

TEAM Warriors
$500 Fund Juvenile Justice Center youth retreat

Trinity Lutheran Church
$600 Purchase cookware for hot meal program

Volunteers of America
$500 For housekeeping supplies for clients

Volunteer Center of Erie County
$500 For Youth/Ohio Veterans Home pen pals
