2009 Spring Community Grants

Thirty grants totaling $101,364 were awarded in the 2009 Round One grants cycle in March. Grants were awarded to organizations in Castalia, Huron, Milan, Oxford Townsip, Sandusky and Vermilion. Approximately 58% of the funds awarded were granted to organizations that serve all of Erie County.

$1,334 Funded in part by the Children’s Health Fund, for a behavioral health youth program

$2,000 Support for a Youth Wellness program

Boy Scouts Heart of Ohio Council
$1,250 Support for the Pinewood Derby

Castalia Lions Club Park
$5,000 To build a shelter at Lions Park

Center for Cultural Awareness
$1,200 For a Youth Empowerment program

Erie County Family and Children First
$2,957 For a Reading is Fundamental program

Erie County Health Department
$4,365 For the Life Skills program

Erie-Huron CAC
$2,600 To purchase five laptop computers and printers

Firelands Public Safety
$5,000 For forcible entry training equipment

2009 Fall Community Grants

The Community Foundation awarded $54,363 to 15 local non-profit organizations in the 2009 Fall grant cycle. Grants were awarded to organizations in Berlin Heights, Castalia, Perkins, Sandusky and Vermilion. Approximately 43% of grants were awarded to organizations that serve all of Erie County.

$10,000 For a 20th Anniversary “Where the Wild Things Are” special exhibit

Perkins Parks and Recreation
$5,000 For new playground equipment

Sandusky Area Maritime Museum
$5,000 For an Ice Harvesting exhibit

$2,600 For four donation drop boxes for Erie County

Sandusky Citizens Coalition
$700 For “Girlfriend to Girlfriend,” a self-esteem building program for teens

Sandusky Lions Club
$1,000 For eye exams and eyeware for low income individuals

Sandusky Underground Railroad
$2,000 For a theatrical production on the Underground Railroad and Sandusky’s significance to the movement

Serving Our Seniors
$2,456 For background checks and geriatric driving tests for senior volunteers

Vermilion Area Archival Society
$892 For publication of educational materials on Lester Allan
