SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDELINES

1. Students must submit a copy of their current academic transcript with the application form.  

2. Submit a completed application to the appropriate office (high school guidance, college financial aid office, or Community Foundation).

3. DEADLINE FOR ALL SCHOLARSHIPS IS MARCH 9, unless otherwise noted. For scholarships indicating financial need is a criterion, please submit a copy of your FAFSA report.

4. Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline will not be considered. Please do not include any supplemental documentation other than what is specifically requested.

5. Applications are reviewed by a scholarship committee. Students may be asked to submit an essay, letters of support, or to attend an interview with the committee as a part of the selection process. Please note, some scholarships have their own application forms, different deadlines and may require additional documentation.

6. Students selected to receive a scholarship will be notified in writing of their award and the amount of the award. Scholarship payments will be made directly to the college or university on behalf of the student.

Carver Family Scholarship For graduates of Sandusky High School, two awards made annually to one female and one male student. Eligibility criteria: Financial need, demonstrated community service, and accepted full-time at an accredited university or community college.

Amount of scholarship: $1,000 minimum Submit application to: Sandusky High School Guidance

 

John & Clara Corogin Scholarship For minority graduates of any Erie County high school Eligibility criteria: Financial need, desire for higher education, evidence of realistic goals, leadership potential and ability to handle college level academic work. Outstanding academic achievements will not be a principal consideration.

Amount of scholarship: $1,000 minimum Submit application to: Community Foundation

 

Harry DeLapp Scholarship

Two awards annually, for a graduate of Huron High School and a graduate of New London High School who participated in the high school football program.

Eligibility criteria: Financial need, ability to succeed academically in college; and demonstrated citizenship. Recipients must be enrolled full-time at an accredited undergraduate university or community college.

Amount of scholarship: $500 minimum Submit application to: Huron or New London High School Guidance

 

Donal F. & Marcia L. Goff Scholarship

For graduates of Perkins High School residing in Erie County, Ohio pursuing a 4-year, undergraduate degree in health care.

Eligibility criteria: Emphasis placed on academic achievement, Desire for higher education, leadership potential, and ability to Handle college level academic work. Recipient must be Enrolled full-time and may apply to renew the award for up to 3 additional years.

Daniel E. & Marjorie A. Hartung Scholarship

For non-traditional aged single parents of Erie County, Ohio Eligibility criteria: Recipients must be returning to school after an interruption in education or continuing in a degreed program on part-time basis. Financial need is a consideration and recipients may be enrolled in an associates or bachelor’s degree program.  

Amount of scholarship: $1,000 Submit application to: Community Foundation

 

Dave Hermes Memorial Scholarship

For graduates of any Erie County high school residing in Erie County.

Eligibility criteria: Minimum 3.0 GPA required. Preference given to academic performance or ACT and SAT scores, as well as balancing community service, athletics and work commitments. Students demonstrating financial need and an agricultural background are given special consideration.

Thomas & Dorothy Jackson “Dare to Dream” Memorial Scholarship

For African-American graduates of Perkins High School with Preference granted to students residing in Searsville or Homeville areas of Perkins Township.

Eligibility criteria: Minimum of 3.0 GPA for first year recipients, and a 2.5 GPA is required for subsequent years. Recipients must be enrolled full time in an accredited, 4-year college or university. Scholarships may be renewed for a second, third and fourth year.

Amount of scholarship: $2,000 first year; $1,000 second year; $500 third and fourth years. Submit application to: Perkins High School Guidance

 

Dr. & Mrs. Kyung H. Kim Scholarship

For students currently enrolled in Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing.

Eligibility criteria: Applicants must be students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and have completed their first year in the program.

Paul, Jeanne, & Sally Maschari Family Scholarship

Two awards annually, one for a graduate of St. Mary’s Central Catholic High School and one for a graduate of Sandusky High School. Eligibility criteria: Recipients must enroll full-time in an Undergraduate program with an accredited university or community college. Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated community service and financial need.

Amount of scholarship: $500 Submit application to: St. Mary’s or Sandusky High School Guidance

 

Ewalt & Jocelyn Maurushat Engineering Scholarship

For graduates of any Erie County high school

Eligibility criteria: Recipients will have a declared major in engineering and pursuing either an undergraduate or graduate degree. Preference given to students demonstrating excellent academic performance. Financial need is a consideration but not fully determinative. The scholarship is renewable for a second, third or fourth year at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

Mildred P. McCrystal Memorial Scholarship

For graduates of any Erie County high school who have completed at least 2 years at an accredited university or community college in the United States. Eligibility criteria: Scholarships available for undergraduate or graduate study.Preference given to students with a declared major in the fine arts with an emphasis on music performance or music education. Scholarship may be renewed for a second, third or fourth year at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

Amount of scholarship: $500 minimum Submit application to: Community Foundation

 

Camile Myers Memorial Scholarship

For female graduates of Perkins High School Eligibility criteria: For 4-year participants in girls’ soccer; secondarily, a 3-year participant in girls’ soccer, if none exist then consideration will be given to 4-year participants in girls’ track. If multiple female seniors are eligible, the scholarship will be selected based on the student’s personal statement and letters of support. Scholarship is available for undergraduate or graduate study and can be renewed at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

Ohio Athletic Committee Wrestling Scholarship

For Ohio residents who have competed in at least one Ohio Athletic Committee Wrestling event.  Successful applicants will be students demonstrating community involvement, academic excellence and a minimum ACT score of 20.  Deadline is January 1

Ruth F. Parker Scholarship

For students who are attending or will attend BGSU Firelands

Eligibility criteria: Students who show academic promise, financial need, and reside in the Erie, Huron or Ottawa county area are given preference for this award. The scholarship can be renewable.

PEO, Chapter BE Scholarship

For female residents of Erie County, Ohio

Eligibility criteria: Preference is given to non-traditional-aged female students returning to school after an interruption in their education or continuing in a degree program on a part-time basis. Financial need is a consideration. Scholarships are available for undergraduate or graduate study and can be renewed at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

Helen B. & Elam P. Sabroske Educational Fund

For high school graduates who attend Bowling Green State University, at either the main or Firelands campus. Eligibility criteria: Preference given to graduates of Erie County high schools residing in Erie County. Outstanding academic achievement and student leadership are principal considerations. Financial need is also considered. The scholarship may be renewed at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

Michelle Marie Saunders & Ryan Leigh Foss Memorial Scholarship

For graduates of Huron High School Eligibility criteria: Preference is given to students planning to attend BGSU main campus or Firelands, and majoring in nursing or education. Recipients must display exceptional character such as love of God and family, appreciation of genuine friendships and a “seize the day” attitude for life that Michelle and Ryan personified in their own lives. Minimum 2.8 GPA required. Financial need is also a consideration. An essay and 3 letters of recommendation are required and must be submitted with the application.

Alan R. Schlessman Scholarship

For graduates of Perkins High School, with some consideration given but not exclusive to those who will attend The Ohio State University. Eligibility criteria: Scholarships are available for one year of undergraduate study. Recipients should demonstrate leadership, and the ability to handle the rigors of college. Additional consideration may be given to students who have participated in golf, basketball, tennis, or peer leadership programs. Financial need is not a consideration.

Clarence W. Seavers Citizenship Scholarship

For graduates of any Erie County high school pursuing a degree in political science or computer technology. Eligibility criteria: Preference shall be given to students with A minimum 3.0 GPA, and demonstrated qualities of leadership, spirituality, and commitment to community service. Financial Need is not a consideration for this scholarship. Recipients must enroll full-time in an accredited university or community college. Award may be renewed for a second, third or fourthyear at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee.

Constance L. Smith Education Scholarship

For graduates of Edison High School Eligibility criteria: Scholarships are available to students who will attend BGSU main campus or Firelands with a declared major in education. Recipients will be students who have successfully balanced academics, community service and work commitments. Financial need can be considered but is not a criterion for this scholarship award. The scholarship may be renewed for a second, third or fourth year at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee, with preference given to qualified freshman applicants.

Edward Paul Toll Scholarship

For graduates of Perkins High School Eligibility criteria: Two awards given annually, one to a student who is majoring in environmental studies and one to a student who plans to participate in a college athletic swimming program. Applicants must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0. Preference is given to students demonstrating a commitment to community service through volunteer activities. The scholarship may be renewed and is available at any time during a student’s undergraduate education.

Kenneth R. & Rhonda Hill-Watt Scholarship

For graduates of Huron, Kelleys Island, Perkins, or Sandusky High Schools for full-time undergraduate study at a university, college, vocational or adult continuing education program.  Eligibility criteria: Applications should demonstrate financial need. Preference given to students who have balanced academics, community service and work commitments Minimum 2.5 GPA required.

Bertha and David Wiggins Scholarship

Scholarships available through a partnership with The Cleveland Foundation.  For Erie County residents who will attend a post-secondary institution in the State of Ohio.     Eligibility criteria:  This scholarship will benefit students of high scholastic achievement from as wide a racial, religious, and cultural spectrum as possible.  Successful applicants will be students whose family income might disqualify them from most financial need scholarship assistance and yet are in need of some scholarship assistance in order to attend college.

Youth Advisory Council Scholarship

For students who are members of the Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council.  Eligibility criteria: One student selected at random from among seven graduating seniors each year. Recipient must attend accredited college, university or community college full time.

ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

College Women’s Club Fund For graduates of Huron, Margaretta, Perkins, Sandusky or St. Mary’s High Schools who have been accepted at a 4-year accredited college or university. Eligibility criteria: Cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 or college GPA of 3.0. Financial need and community activities are considered. Preference given to females. Amount of scholarship: $1,000 Submit application to: Huron, Margaretta, Perkins, St. Mary’s, or Sandusky high school guidance offices.  Deadline is March 1. This scholarship requires the College Womens Club Application form which can be downloaded from the Community Foundation website under Additional Scholarship Applications or at www.cwcsandusky.org

 

Firelands Positive People Fund

For graduates of any Erie, Huron and Ottawa County high school Eligibility criteria: For students who have overcome adversity and face life with a positive outlook. Financial need, GPA and community service are considered. Amount of scholarship: $3,000; $1,000; $500 Submit application to: Katey Eirons, 1007 Cove Circle, Huron, Ohio 44839. Deadline is March 1. This scholarship requires the Firelands Positive People Application form which can be downloaded from the Community Foundation website under Additional Scholarship Applications.

 

Sandusky Rotary Club Charitable Fund

For graduates of Margaretta, Perkins, Sandusky and St. Mary’s Central Catholic High Schools

Eligibility criteria: Academic excellence, community service and work experience are considered, as well as financial need. Amount of scholarship: $1,000 Submit application to: Sandusky Rotary Club. Deadline is March 8. This scholarship requires the Sandusky Rotary Application form which can be downloaded from the Community Foundation website under Additional Scholarship Applications or at www.sanduskyrotary.org
