Community Foundation Grants Awarded
The Sandusky/Erie County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the completion of its Round 1, 2011 community grant competition. Funding for these grants were made possible as the result of another major grant to the Community Foundation from the Randolph J. and Estelle M. Dorn Foundation as well as through the generous support of many donors in the community. The Round 1 grants have resulted in $87,963 being awarded to 25 local, non-profit organizations. Grants were awarded to organizations in Berlin-Milan, Huron, Bellevue, Sandusky, and Vermilion. Many of grants were awarded to organizations that serve all of Erie County.
In the category of Youth Services, grants were awarded to:
Sandusky Junior Sailors, Inc., $3,700 for repair and maintenance of sailing school’s boats
Nehemiah Partners of Sandusky, $5,235 for kitchen equipment
Erie/Huron Community Action, $2,957 as a match for federal funds used to purchase children’s books
CASA We Care Program, $2,000 for toiletries, clothing and school supplies for CASA children
Boys and Girls Club of Erie County, $2,000 for Safe Kids After School and Teen mentoring
Youth Advisory Council, $5,000 for Youth Advisory Council 2011 grants program
In the category of Social Services, grants were awarded to:
Erie County Health Department, $1,119 for Viewpoint Senior Garden Group’s Community Garden
Serving Our Seniors, $3,750 telephone system repair and upgrade
American Red Cross, Firelands Chapter $2,350 updated CPR & First Aid Library
Cancer Services of Erie County, $5,000 for cancer patient medication program
Second Harvest Food Bank, $5,000 for food grants for Erie County food pantries to increase distribution
Sandusky Lions Club, $956 assistance for sight impaired
Sandusky YMCA, $3,000 for capital improvement project
In the category of Community Development, grants were awarded to:
City of Sandusky, $2,892 for Lions Park multipurpose play surface
City of Vermilion, $3,000 for grant consultant services for downtown revitalization project
In the category of Education, grants were awarded to:
Sandusky City Schools, $2,800 for display boards for the Festival of the Arts at SCS
Sandusky City Schools, $5,000 for clothing items for Uniform Closet
In the category of Environment, a grant was awarded to:
Blair Sunset Haven, $2,800 for an equicizer
In the category of Arts and Humanities, grants were awarded to:
Sandusky Library, $525 for books for Summer Reading program
Sandusky State Theatre, $3,580 for youth & family programs
Firelands Symphony Orchestra, $6,000 for 2011-2012 season sponsorship
Thomas Edison Birthplace Association, $9,799 for replacement of HVAC systems
Historic Lyme Village, $4,000 concrete sidewalks for handicap accessibility
Ritter Public Library, $2,500 for building an e-book collection
Huron Playhouse, $3,000 2011 season sponsorship
The Sandusky/Erie County Community Foundation continues a tradition of mindful, effective grant making, addressing a variety of needs throughout Erie County. Each year, the Foundation holds two grant competitions, in the fifteen years since its inception, The Sandusky/Erie County Community Foundation has awarded more than $4 million to organizations in Erie County.

Scholarships Available
The Sandusky/Erie County Community Foundation is accepting applications from Erie County students for various scholarships managed by the Community Foundation. A complete listing of scholarships available, requirements and applications can be found on our website at www.sanduskyfoundation.org or picked up at the Foundation office.
The Sandusky Erie County Community Foundation manages more than 27 named scholarship funds for the benefit of Erie County students.
Completed applications must be received in the foundation office by 5:00PM on March 9, 2012.
